Case Study 3: "Helen"
A Career Change
Helen was a young professional with 5 years’ experience in the financial sector - when the opportunity came up to take redundancy she took it. She had always performed well, and colleagues regarded her highly, but she didn’t feel satisfied with her work and wanted to use the opportunity to move into work that she enjoyed. Now felt like the time to make a big change. She just didn’t know what she wanted to change to.

Partly, the challenge was to uncover what kind of work and lifestyle would satisfy Helen's ambitions and aspirations, but also to identify what makes Helen's proposition to employers unique and motivating.
This is what Helen's programme of coaching looked like:
Workshop 1: Learning from Past.
Personal Values
& Motivators
Workshop 2: Talents & Super Strengths
Shifting perspectives
on skills and talents
Workshop 3: Future Vision Manifestation
Mapping Opportunities
SWOT analysis vs
Personal Motivators
Workshop 4: Defining your Personal Brand
Next steps
Helen realised through the coaching sessions that she actually liked working in the financial sector but wanted a role that was more people-oriented.
Through exploring different options available (eg a shift in role with her current organisation vs moving to a different organisation/sector doing the same role vs moving to a different organisation/sector doing a different role) , and marrying this with Helen’s motivators and future aspirations, Helen realised that she actually liked working in the financial sector but wanted to be more people-oriented. She decided to move into a Learning & Development role. Helen began obtaining the relevant Professional Development qualifications while interviewing for a new position at the same time.
